Tips
The square size I’m working with is about 5 by 5inches. You can go nuts and go smaller or larger.
You can cut fringe in the petals if you’re interested in a different look.

Michigan has a top-notch used bookstore scene. That’s how I found the inspiration for this craft in Creating With Tissue Paper. Design, Technique, Decoration by Barbara B Stephan C1973 Crown Publishing.
I scoured the internet for more information on Barbara B Stephan. I was hoping to find a fan club or some evidence that she got her, as they say, flowers for making an important contribution to the DIY world. I discovered two other books; Decorations for Holidays and Celebrations and Spirit And Symbol: The Japanese New Year (cowritten with Reiko Mochinaga Brandon).
Other than her books, that make her seem like a pretty neat lady, there isn’t anything else online about Ms. Stephan. I hope she is still out there or if not, that she was buried in a bed of honeycombed tissue paper fruits.
Here are some examples of awesomeness in the book. Like this vase full of “imaginary flowers”:
And paper flowers in the wild:
Note to self: Make broccoli/vegetable art.
And some, totally safe I’m sure, lampshades made from tissue paper:
If anything, I hope that all of this makes you look at tissue paper as a worthy medium and not just something used to wrap your seasonal stemware.
