Well hello friends!
Rural Hours & Hours is a new weekly section. A place for, oh, sort of semi-public journaling about being in a conservative small town during the transformation of America. An apocalyptic-times homage to Susan Fenimore Cooper’s Rural Hours. A 19th century book of some seriously engaging nature writing (I read a section when I need to CTFO). This will be HHB style nature writing like; weather, trees, birds, and humans.
Rural Hours & Hours will be behind the paywall so I can let er rip. Your support really helps if you are able to contribute. In celebration of this new section that is so intriguing it has to go behind a paywall, paid subscriptions are discounted for the next week. If upgrading isn’t an option for you right now but would like to read this section, message or email me and as long as you’re a regular subscriber I can get you access. You don’t even have to tell me anything other than “I’d love to read the new section.” And I hope that’s true!

The dipping dots snow is like hail-light but it stays on the ground in little packing-foam reject looking piles.
I grew up here but don’t remember dipping dots snow. I wonder if it is a product of Dark Brandon’s Weather Machine. I’d like to write him and tell him that dipping dots snow is sh*t for making snowman.
It’s wrestling season so we have the wildlings a lot lately. With their parents busy coaching and carting around the two oldest, most of my time is spent hanging with the three littles. This is a gift because the anecdote to fretting about the state of things is to be around 6-9 year olds. Their concerns are: Uncrustables, lego videos on youtube, getting Alexa to play the Chicken Nugget song, claiming favorite colors, and using the good scissors.
